Subdued Market
GBP: The British Pound is expected to remain resilient in the short term, supported by cautious Bank of England policy and balanced market positioning. While recent economic data has disappointed, much of the bad news is already reflected in the currency’s value. Ultimately, Sterling may benefit from global risk trends and softer peers, though concerns over tax hikes and structural weaknesses continue to limit long-term confidence in the Pound.
EUR: The Euro held strong despite early weakness driven by French political tensions and disappointing German sentiment. In fact, support emerged from improved market mood and the Euro’s inverse relationship with a softer U.S. Dollar. Moreover, mixed German data offered limited direction, but rising inflation eased concerns over aggressive rate cuts. Focus now shifts to upcoming Eurozone figures, which could determine whether the Euro can extend its recent stability or face renewed pressure.
USD: The U.S. Dollar remained subdued amid growing expectations of a Federal Reserve rate cut at the September meeting, fuelled by soft economic data and cautious remarks from Chair Powell. Looking forward, investors will be closely watching Friday’s nonfarm payrolls report for confirmation of labour market weakness. Ultimately, despite recent inflation data exceeding forecasts, the Dollar struggles as risk sentiment improves and political concerns over Fed independence add further pressure.
