Risk-off Sentiment

GBP: The British Pound remains under pressure as the UK economy grapples with weakening business sentiment and looming fiscal tightening. The British Chambers of Commerce’s latest survey revealed that tax burdens and inflation continue to erode business confidence, with only 48% of firms expecting turnover growth. Concerns ahead of the Autumn Budget, likely to include tax hikes, are weighing on Sterling, especially as investment intentions remain subdued.

EUR: The Euro has struggled amidst growing political and economic uncertainty, particularly in France. Political turmoil following the resignation of France’s prime minister and fears of fiscal instability have cast a shadow over the Eurozone. While the Euro gained briefly from risk-off sentiment, expectations that the ECB may intervene to support fiscally strained nations like France underscore deeper structural weaknesses. Germany’s poor economic performance adds further downside pressure to the single currency.

USD: The U.S. Dollar is ending the week on a strong note despite dovish signals from the Federal Reserve and an ongoing government shutdown. Its strength is largely supported by weakness in rival currencies such as the euro. However, with investors betting on further rate cuts by year-end, the dollar’s performance reflects risk-off sentiment and limited economic data releases. For now, it remains the preferred safe haven, buoyed by global uncertainty and cautious markets.
