Interest Rates
GBP: The British Pound is supported by rising UK interest rate expectations as markets anticipate the Bank of England may need to tighten policy more aggressively amid energy-driven inflation risks linked to the Middle East conflict. The UK begins from a position of elevated inflation, prompting a sharp market repricing toward potential rate hikes. Higher gilt yields have supported the currency, although gains have remained relatively restrained overall.
EUR: The Euro remained supported after the European Central Bank left policy unchanged while signalling heightened inflation risks driven by rising energy prices. Officials lifted inflation forecasts and stressed a flexible, meeting-by-meeting approach to decisions. Growing price pressures across the eurozone, alongside close monitoring of economic indicators such as Germany’s producer prices, are expected to guide policy and influence the currency’s near-term outlook in coming months.
USD: The US Dollar remained supported after the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady while upgrading its forecasts for growth and inflation. This shift led investors to reduce expectations for near-term rate cuts, reinforcing demand for the currency. Although gains moderated during later trading, the Dollar retained underlying strength. Ongoing geopolitical tensions and risk sentiment continue to bolster its appeal as a safe-haven asset globally today.
