Unexpected Growth
GBP
The British Pound strengthened after the UK economy grew more strongly than expected in July. The figures suggest the economy is proving more resilient than anticipated, increasing pressure on the Bank of England to raise interest rates. Stable employment and continued business spending are also supporting the pound. However, concerns remain around rising borrowing costs and the government’s upcoming budget, which could create future challenges.
EUR
The Euro remained steady as the European Central Bank raised interest rates again, although its cautious message limited the currency’s momentum. Attention now turns to comments from ECB President Christine Lagarde, with a firmer tone potentially supporting the Euro. Investors will also watch economic data closely, as signs of weaker growth could influence expectations for future European Central Bank decisions and strengthen demand for the Euro.
USD
The US Dollar remained steady as markets awaited key US inflation figures. Softer inflation could reduce support for the currency, while persistent price pressures may strengthen expectations for higher interest rates and boost the Dollar. Investor caution is also helping the Dollar, as it is often seen as a safer choice during uncertain periods. US inflation data will therefore be closely watched for direction.
